Comparisons Between the Follicular
Unit and Modified Follicular Unit
To make sure we could achieve reliable
comparisons, we transplanted follicular units and modified
follicular units on the same patient. We divided the recipient
area into two regions. One side received single hair grafts, follicular
units and modified follicular units. The other side received only
single hair grafts and follicular units.
Subject: a 50-years old male patient
Total coverage area: 80 cm2, split to 40 cm2
on each side
Donor Site: 30 cm2
Expected density: 38% of his original density
Follicular unit site: 15 cm2 donor, double blades
chuck, Mantis Stereoscope to cut
Modified Follicular unit site: 15 cm2 donor, 5,
2 mm spaces with 6 blades to cut five 2 mm strips, Mantis stereoscope
to cut
Staff: Four technicians;
to account for any human factors, each technician rotated in order
to have an equal chance to implant the grafts in every area.
