How many grafts do I need?

1. Understand final goal.
2. Measure the recipient size.
3. Decide density for each surgery. (Between 25%-35%)
4. Calculate size of donor strip.
Donor Strip Size = Recipient area x Density
5. Decide the size of the grafts
Single Follicular Unit size is 1 mm x 1mm; 1 cm2 = 100 grafts
Modified Follicular Unit size is 2 mm x 1 mm; 1 cm2= 50 grafts

Example:
Recipient size 80cm2
Density 25%
Donor size will be 80 x 25% = 20 cm2
Single Follicular Unit = 100 x 20 = 2000 grafts
Modified follicular Unit = 50 x 20 = 1000 grafts

6. If you need hairline reconstruction, you will need to add on about 200 to 400 grafts.
