A Day for a 2000-Graft FUE Transplant Process
For patients considering a 2000-graft Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) procedure, understanding the surgical process is key. Our approach prioritizes both your comfort and the highest quality graft extraction, utilizing the optimal 0.9mm punch size for superior results.
Here's a step-by-step breakdown of what to expect during your procedure:
1
Pre-Procedure and Anesthesia
Your safety and comfort are our top priorities from the moment you arrive.
-
Vitals Monitoring: We'll begin by setting up continuous monitoring of your vital signs, including oxygen saturation, heart rate, and blood pressure. This ensures we have real-time data on your physiological well-being throughout the procedure.
-
IV Sedation: To ensure a relaxed and pain-free experience, intravenous (IV) sedation will be gently administered. This will help you remain calm and comfortable throughout the surgery.
-
Donor Site Preparation: To facilitate precise graft extraction, we'll shave most of the donor site, typically at the back and sides of your head.
-
Local Anesthesia: Once sedated, a Tumescent anesthetic will be carefully applied to half of the donor area. This completely numbs the region, ensuring you won't feel any discomfort during the extraction process.
2
Graft Harvesting: Precision and Efficiency
Our meticulous harvesting technique is designed to maximize graft integrity.
-
Initial Harvesting Position: To begin the extraction of the first 1000 grafts, you'll be positioned in a left lateral (side-lying) position, allowing us optimal access to the donor area. This will transition to a prone (face-down) position as needed. The last will be in a right lateral position.
-
The 0.9mm Punch Advantage: As discussed, we exclusively use the 0.9mm punch. This size allows us to resect (cut around) the entire follicular unit precisely to the depth of the hair follicle, ensuring the graft remains intact with vital surrounding tissue. This precision is crucial for graft survival and robust growth.
-
Harvesting Speed: Achieving this level of precision and ensuring intact grafts means a carefully controlled pace. Our harvesting speed is approximately 500 grafts per hour. Therefore, extracting the initial 2000 grafts will take about 4 hours.
Break and Repositioning
After the initial harvesting phase, we'll ensure you have a comfortable break:
-
Patient Break: At this point, you'll have the opportunity for a restroom break and lunch. This allows you to stretch, refuel, and prepare for the next stage of the procedure.
-
Position Change: Following your break, your position will be changed to a sitting position for the remainder of the procedure, ensuring continued comfort.
3
Recipient Site Creation and Implantation
This is where artistry meets precision, preparing the scalp for your new hair.
-
Recipient Slit Creation: Using 19-gauge needles, we'll meticulously create the recipient slits in the areas where you desire hair growth. The angle, depth, and direction of these tiny incisions are crucial for achieving a natural-looking hair pattern. This precise process typically takes 60 to 90 minutes.
-
Graft Implantation: This is the final stage of the procedure. Two to three highly skilled technicians will work collaboratively to carefully implant each individual 0.9mm graft into the prepared recipient sites. This meticulous process ensures each graft is placed correctly for optimal growth and density, taking approximately 2 to 3 hours.
Total Procedure Time
From start to finish, a 2000-graft FUE procedure with our team typically spans 7 to 8 hours. This comprehensive timeframe includes all preparation, anesthesia, careful harvesting, breaks, recipient site creation, and the final, meticulous implantation. While it's a significant commitment of time, our focus remains on ensuring your comfort and achieving the highest quality, most natural-looking results possible.
